Wow, I love your second Snape drawing, too. I like it almost as much as your first drawing. You captured him perfectly. I love his large, deep, dark eyes. The eyebrows make his face look a bit menacing but also sad. You also captured his hair and nose wonderfully, and I like how youthful he looks here. I guess I would never think of this man as an evil and mean person but a sad, melancholic and even tragic character. Great work!

Oh, this is fantastic. Just as impressive as the first one, and equally beautiful. His head-tilt is exactly right, curious, critical, potentially malevolent, or possibly just thoughtful and self-possessed. It reminds me of these lines from a fanfic by Atdelphi: "Snape tilted his head to one side. It was a bird-like motion. Nothing graceful or delicate, but more akin to the way a canny raven might look as it gauged whether it could pluck out a lamb's eye while mother ewe wasn't watching." It's a detached, assessing way of looking at life, perhaps the quintessential Snape expression.

The three-quarter profile is a difficult angle to get right, and you've done such an elegant, exquisite job here. His lips reserve judgment. His nose is reminiscent of the raven's beak. But as fascinating as everything else about him may be, his eyes are the emotional center of the portrait, and they're astonishing. You've made them as black as they are in canon, the dark tunnels Rowling repeatedly describes, and yet they brim with life, with suspicion, with an intelligent shrewdness devoid of compassion. This is the face of a man who doesn't suffer fools (or students) gladly, but who studies things obsessively and prefers to err on the side of harshness rather than generosity, who rarely gives the benefit of the doubt.

Also, I have to praise you again for your skill at drawing greasy hair, and for your amazing command of light and shadow. I could stare at this Snape for hours and never tire of him. He's so life-like I almost expect him to raise his head and curl his lip in disdain. ♥
